We wake up hungry The beach is our backyard We don’t like pants Or shoes We play outside every day We watch sunsets with our parents They make safe products for us to use We trust them. You can too.

Trust The Bum

In 2010, we started a little company called Sun Bum® that creates skin, lip and hair care products that fit the essence, aesthetic and socially conscious vibe of our small beachside community.

Since then, some of us started having babies and we found ourselves not knowing which products we could trust to put on their sensitive newborn skin. So, just like before, we decided to make our own products for our own babies. We called it Baby Bum (of course) and because we make it for our own rad little bundles of joy, you can be sure it’s always the very best it can be. Our products use some of the earth’s most treasured ingredients and we don’t use anything that could hurt the planet or our kids. That’s a promise.

PS. We’ve also created some baby animal characters to teach our kids about the things that matter most to us. Ya know, like music, art, taking care of the planet, yoga, surfing, love and mosh pits. :)

Pediatrician Tested

Because our little one’s skin is still developing, we submit for third party expert reviews to ensure our formulations are safe and non-irritating. That’s why every one of our Baby Bum undergoes testing with oversight and review by a board-certified Pediatrician.

Plant Based

The majority of our ingredients come from renewable plant sources.

Baby Bum products labeled as vegan contain no animal ingredients or animal by-products.

Cruelty Free

Our products are always tested on ourselves, our families and our community, not on animals.

Hypoallergenic & Dermatologist Tested

Baby Bum products have been safety and allergy tested in third-party clinical testing reviewed by board certified Dermatologist and have been verified to be non-irritating even for those with sensitive skin.

Tear Free

For products that we just know are going to splash around those little eyes (like our Shampoo & Wash and Bubble Bath), we have submitted them for third-party clinical testing with independent board certified ophthalmologists, which has found our formulas to be tear-free.

pH Balanced

pH describes the acidity or alkalinity of a material, even skin. Skin is slightly acidic, which is part of its natural defensive mechanism to maintain a healthy flora and deter harmful bacteria from making themselves at home. Baby Bum products are formulated to be ultra mild and maintain the skin’s natural pH.

Good Stuff

The rad gifts from nature that make our stuff extra special. Only the best for our little groms.

Monoi Oil:

Precious Tahitian Gardenia (Tiare Tahiti) flower buds are collected by hand, then infused in coconut oil to create this traditional, treasured remedy, which is used to nourish skin.

Coconut Oil:

Coconut is a treasured island staple; its oil provides natural, essential nutrients to moisturize and protect the skin.

Shea Butter:

This luxurious, restorative emollient from the Shea nut moisturizes and protects skin.

Cocoa Butter:

Cocoa butter is a protective, natural skin moisturizer from Cocoa beans.

Versatile, skin soothing essential oil calms sensitive skin and aids relaxation.

Natural herbal remedy calms and soothes sensitive skin.

Rich in vitamins and minerals, banana is nourishing to skin.

White Ginger:

A delicate white flower that grows wild on the Hawaiian Islands, its extract helps to replenish and hydrate all skin types.

Sea Minerals:

Therapeutic minerals like magnesium, calcium and sodium found in sea water help sustain healthy skin.

Zinc Oxide:

Zinc oxide is a natural mineral that provides a non-irritating protective barrier on skin, shielding from damaging elements.

Bad Stuff

You won’t find this stuff in Baby Bum products. That’s a promise.

Baby Bum promises to be free from:

Baby Bum products are free from any wheat derivatives or other ingredients that may contain the protein gluten, and have been verified gluten-free in third party analytical testing.

Parabens are synthetic preservatives that have been shown in some studies to absorb into skin, and may exhibit estrogenic effects. Instead of parabens, we choose alternative preservative ingredients. When possible, we avoid preservatives all together, like in our Coconut Balm and Diaper Rash Cream.

Sulfates are aggressive detergents, most commonly SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) and SLES (sodium laureth sulfate) being commonly used in home cleaning, hair, hand and body washes. Instead, we choose mild, nonirritating, plant-derived cleansing agents that can be less irritating and appropriate for babies’ skin.

Formaldehyde Donors

This class of preservatives works to kill harmful bacteria by releasing a small amount of formaldehyde in the formulation. Instead of formaldehyde-donors, our Baby Bum line has natural preservatives that don’t release harmful actives. When possible, we avoid preservatives all together, as with our Coconut Balm and Diaper Rash Cream.

Artificial Fragrances

Some synthetic fragrance compounds may cause skin sensitivities. Our Baby Bum products that have fragrance added to the formula are natural fragrances, used at safe levels for sensitive skin. We also have fragrance free options for various products in our range.

Used in many household products as plasticizers or solvents, Phthalates are synthetic ingredients that some research has found can disrupt hormones. Baby Bum formulas do not include phthalates.

Glycols are non-renewable, non-sustainable petroleum derivatives often used as skin humectants, emollients, or solvents. Instead of glycols, we use plant-based alternatives including botanical extracts and glycerin to help hydrate skin naturally.

Mineral Oil

Mineral Oil is a non-renewable, non-sustainable derivative of petroleum used as an emollient. Baby Bum products use plant-based Monoi Coconut Oil instead, which we find more nourishing for babies’ skin and hey, it’s better for the environment, too.

Retinyl Palmitate

Research studies have found that this form of Vitamin A may accelerate the development of skin tumors and lesions when used in presence of sunlight. We don’t use Retinyl Palmitate in our formulations.

Silicones provide slip, emolliency or artificial barrier protection, but research indicates that it can inhibit the skin’s ecosystem. Instead of using silicones, we choose sustainably sourced plant oils such as Coconut and Avocado to nourish the skin in a better way.

Talc is a naturally-occurring mineral but it has been linked to some respiratory irritation. Talc can be contaminated with asbestos fibers, posing risks for respiratory toxicity and cancer. Baby Bum uses natural tapioca starch as an alternative to talc.

Triclosan is a synthetic ingredient that studies have indicated has some toxicity concerns, that is commonly used in some antibacterial personal care and home care products. Baby Bum Hand Sanitizer uses only safe ingredients including plant and sugar cane-derived ethanol instead, which has been third party tested to kill 99.9% of common germs and bacteria.

Most commonly found in cosmetic products and foods, synthetic dyes are used to artificially color products. Our Baby Bum range does not use any colorants. We think they look perfect just the way they are.

Nano Particles

A nano particle is a material that is so small it has to be measured in nanometers. Our sunscreens use only non-nano sized Zinc Oxide, which can help alleviate any concern that small particles could be absorbed into the skin.
